What’s Hiding Inside Of Me

–found poem by Brianna Levinson, excerpted from The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot

No one visited Hopkins without visiting Jesus.

I had a knot inside of me,

sick from the treatments,

I got cancer.

She never mentioned it;

She simply went on with her day.

Nothin serious wrong with me,

doctor’s gonna fix me right up.

I’m all right.

I’m fine.

Always smiling.

Honored for all the love given to family and loved ones.

You can’t see sometimes,

but something always happens.

The sickness broke down on her.
